Who We Are

Katie Sweeney is a senior strategic thought leader with over 25 years of experience. Katie founded OutsideIn Strategies, Inc. in 2001 following 12 years in strategy consulting.  As a seasoned qualitative researcher, she probes for insights at the highest order and then leverages them to drive actionable recommendations for growth. 

Prior to establishing OutsideIn Strategies, Katie spent five years as a Director with The Cambridge Group, a demand strategy consulting firm. Before Cambridge, she was with A.T. Kearney, where she helped establish a practice in Retail and Direct Marketing Consulting.  She also spent five years with Deloitte Consulting’s Retail and Apparel practice and worked at Yankelovich, a market research supplier.

Katie received her MBA from The Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University, with a concentration in Marketing, and her BA cum laude from Colgate University with a double major in biology and English.  She is a member of the Qualitative Research Consultants Association (QRCA). Katie has been a guest lecturer at Cornell, Colgate, and James Madison University and is a current Olympic-Distance triathlete and marathon runner.  Katie also serves on the Parent Advisory Board of SNACK, Special Needs Activity Center for Kids.

Michael W. Sweeney - Director of Online Strategies - Since the Spring of 2010, Michael has built out the online networks platform at The ProActive Network and now he brings that expertise to OutsideIn Strategies. Mike has over fifteen years of experience in financial markets at Waterville Research and at Stanhope Capital, a private equity firm which focused on Small-Cap technology and medical companies.

Prior to Stanhope, Mike worked at Shearson Lehman Brothers and Chase Securities. In the technology field, Mike was the Co-Founder of 4th Peripheral Technologies, a wireless speech/telecommunications company in Silicon Valley that was taken over by a management team from Motorola and Lucent.

Mike received his M.B.A. in 1989 from The Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, and his B.A. in 1984 from Boston College. He is very active in a number of Autism causes and charities including The Hawthorne Foundation, a pioneering school for Autistic children in Manhattan and Westchester. The Sweeney's also participate in the Simons Simplex Collection at Columbia University.
